Now I'm at Kinko's. One hour left. After my last entry, I walked over to Border's. I did what I usually do. Sat in the art section and looked through books. There was this nice one. 'Great Britain: Then & Now' .... I think that was the title. I have the memory capacity of a goldfish sometimes.
I really like doing that though. Just sitting there on the carpet with my legs folded and a big book spread across my lap. Hunched over and sometimes tracing my fingers over the brush strokes in paintings if its an art book. I just like the pictures. Photography books, art, fashion. Anything that doesn't have too many words. I can't really read there. There's always some moronic kid screaming at his mom or something.
One of the guys who work there was checking stock or something and was right there the whole time. Sometimes standing right next to me. Sometimes crouched. He sorta became like an involuntary companion. It seemed even more so when this guy he knew came over to talk to him. He apparently works there too. He told him he was leaving tomorrow or something. That's when my companion said something like:
"I know I owe you. I'll pay you back. I just had to use the money for rent. Don't worry though .... I'll pay you back."
He didn't say it in a loud whisper or anything. It was as if we were all friends and were comfortable enough to talk about stuff like that without being embarrassed. I just thought it was weird that he said it as loud as he did. Maybe I just have too much pride or something.
Then this girl came over and they started talking about the second guy's transfer or something. All three of them chatting across from me. My eyes became less focused and I browsed through the book faster. I was becoming a reluctant player in the conversation. I had to listen. My fingers ran over pages even faster until I was way to restless to even continue. I left.
So here I am. Finishing a brownie a bought with the turkey sandwich I had for lunch. Counting down the time when I can head back to the apartment. The really good thign is that my laptop's fixed so I can at least get online. I'm doing everything as slowly as possible. Waste as much time as possible.
