2001-03-29 - 10:35:35 pm I Was Followed
Thursday

I think I was followed tonight. Seriously. I went to Borders soon after my last entry. I remember seeing the guy while I was going through art books. I didn't think about that until I got home. I left there about quarter to 9. I figured Richie was gone by then. I remember the guy walking towards the exit. I'm piecing it all together now. I walked out of Borders and went to a bench nearby to put my fleece on before heading outside. Then I headed outside and that's when I saw him. He was right behind me when I pushed the doors open and me being as nice as I am ... I held the doors open for him. Balding white guy. Dark hair. Dark eyes. Creepy smile.

He said thanks and I smiled before I adjusted my back pack and stepped into the drizzle. I didn't think anything of it when he crossed the street when I did. I didn't even think anything of it when I walked 3 blocks and realized he was there when I had to cross the street again. He wore a black jacket and I saw a part of it every now and then when I looked out of the corner of my eye.

I started thinking that I sometimes forget where I live. That this isn't the Caribbean and they are people here who can really hurt you. I started walking faster and looking at the shadows. I didn't see his shadow but when I crossed the street again he was there.

I'm not sure how far he followed me to. I figured if he was still behind me a block from my building ... he was definitely following me. Unless he's going to the train station or something. I walked faster and got home. The door slid open and I smiled and said hi to the concierge. I expected to hear him talk to someone soon after I rounded the corner and walked to the elevators. Like asking 'creepy guy' if he needed something. I expected to hear creep guy say he was with me or something. I expected to turn around in shock and say "I have no idea who this guy is".

I got up to the apartment and rushed to my window and looked down at the street. Dark hair and a black jacket. I swear. I dunno for sure if it was him or not. The person was standing across the street from the entrance to my building. I felt creeped out. I looked away and just then ... the phone rang. It scared the shit out of me. I expected it to be the front desk telling me I have a visitor. I expected I'd have to say "I have no idea who that guy is" when they tell me his name or say "I didn't order takeout".

It was Bryan. I was totally relieved. I rushed back to the window after I hung up. No one. It was raining harder now.
