Friday

Today? Today was sort of a rollercoaster. I got up at like 5! Yah, AM!! I know! I've noticed that I can control my internal clock. My body now knows that I'm on my own and I don't have my mom ... yes ... my mom to wake me up anymore. I had my alarm set for 5 am but I actually woke up like 10 minutes before. Naturally.

One thing I could never seem to rush is a shower. I always end up ... I don't even know what the hell really keeps me in the shower that long ... but my showers usually average around 10 to 15 minutes. Weird ... I know.

I love love love the fresh Thomas' waffles. I do this thing where I don't even put 'em in the toaster ... or use a plate. It's all in the technique. You hold the waffle ... grab the syrup with the other ... pour some syrup over the waffle (making sure some gets into almost every square). You sorta begin to fold it like a taco and just scarf it down. Perfect for when you're in a rush ... or jusy a lazy bum. I've mastered doing that and drinking juice while I scarf down the waffle.

After waiting for what seemed to be an hour for the bus ... one finally came and I got to the city. I was totally determined not to be late meeting Norm this morning. All was fine until I got to Grand Central. They were checking tracks or something. The minute I saw the ladder and the track guy with his flashlight ... I knew I was in trouble. The train didn't get there until like 15 minutes after.

I still managed to meet Norm in time and we drove up to White Plains. It's such a beautiful drive up. "'Car commercial' roads" ... I mentioned to Norm one day while we were driving up. That's what the scenery's like.

I was born in the Caribbean ... but my spirit ... Alaska. By the time we were heading back into the city ... I had a headache. I felt it was heat-related. It wasn't a migraine and I had breakfast ... so it had to be from the heat. Just like last week. I got some Advil and a V8 Splash in the nearest Rite Aid before taking the train. My head was throbbing. Totally throbbing now .... and wouldn't you know ... a whole group of kids got in the same car I was in. Kids + a headache = kill me right now! They would not shut up. Grand Central couldn't come any sooner. I was feeling a little better while I stood and waited for the 7 train to Times Square. Closing my eyes and feeling the cool 'train breath'. That gust of wind when the train pulls in. It felt so good. Too good, even. In a way ... it was a warning.

I got on and ... hmmm ... no AC.

"In fact ... it's hotter in here than on the platform. I'll just go to another car."

I did.

"Oh ... my .... GOSH!! .. It's even hotter in here. The vent are actually blowing ... *scream* ... HEAT!"

My headache came back full-force. Little beads of sweat started to gather on my forehead.

"Ok .... 5th Avenue. Almost there."

It takes like a minute to get from 5th Avenue to Times Square. But just before actually pulling in to the station ... the train stopped. Not just for 30 seconds ... but for about 1 ... 2 .... *announcement from the conductor* ... 3 ... 4 .... 5 minutes. The girl sitting across from me stopped reading and started fanning herself with her book. I honestly thought I was gonna pass out. Just like a girl I saw a few weeks ago. She was on the subway platform and she just ... fell. Just like that. It was extremely hot that day just like it was in that damned subway car.

We finally moved and the minute the doors opened ... I bolted out of there and gasped for cooler air. I jumped on the first bus I saw and came home. The Advil still didn't kick in yet and I needed to get some groceries. I rested a while and I felt better actually. The Advil had kicked in I guess ... plus ... it wasn't that hot here. Pathmark is like ... I dunno ... 15 blocks away maybe. I walked over and figured I'd just get a bus on the way back. All the buses were full coming back so I walked all the way back. Blah!

Mark's gone for the weekend again. When is he not? He left like midnight last night. Gyselle went with him. I think I've only seen him here one weekend since I've been here. Oh ... I talked to him about Radiohead tickets before he left though. He said he's gonna get tickets this week. We're both fans. That'll be cool. I can't wait til August. This'll be my first concert and what better group to go see than Radiohead?
